About TSP Cleaner

TSP Cleaner (short for Trisodium phosphate cleaner) is the cleaning agent frequently used as the last step in the concrete staining process. Cleaning with TSP is a common technique used among home renovators and professional contractors alike. Using TSP cleaner on concrete is part of the preferred method here, so we included this 1 lb bag of TSP cleaner in our cleaning and prep supplies.

A frequent question that we get is what is TSP cleaner? Trisodium phosphate is a common cleaning agent that is recognized by the FDA as being "relatively safe". TSP is a common additive in food, but in this case it is also a powerful degreaser and cleaning agent. Another common question we get is "What is TSP for?". In our case, we normally use TSP cleaner to clean up after the concrete staining process. But the uses of TSP cleaner are pretty varied, it is an incredibly useful substance. You can use TSP cleaner for walls (we have information about acid staining walls, which would require wall TSP wall cleaner), TSP cleaner on brick and wood. There are a ton of TSP uses, more than I can list here. We have information on cleaning with TSP in the tab above, but in short you want to mix it with water to create a TSP solution, scrub well, and rinse it off before staining the concrete.

We have more information on cleaning and prepping concrete (including how to use TSP cleaner) in our knowledge base. Concrete Camouflage strives to not only provide you the best products, but also to give you all of the information that you need to stain concrete in your home. We have covered how to apply TSP cleaner, how to use TSP cleaner, and the proper mixture above, but we provide a more general overview of cleaning and prepping concrete in our Ask a Pro series and our knowledge base.
